Our Story

Guardians of anancient heritage

Meli De Sardigna is born from a stubborn love for a land that never stops surprising. In Sardinia beekeeping is as ancient as the Nuraghes — archaeobotanical finds show that already in the Bronze Age the Sardinian populations collected and consumed honey from local bees.

The Sardinian Black Bee (Apis mellifera sicula) is a native breed that has evolved in isolation on the island for millennia. It is smaller, more resistant, more adapted to the Sardinian endemic flora than any other breed. Our bees are Sardinian Black Bees — protected, raised, kept as the genetic heritage they are.

Our philosophy is simple: don't intervene more than necessary. Our job is to position the hives in the right places at the right time, then let Sardinian nature do its work. We cold-extract, don't pasteurize, number every batch. The jar you hold is the direct result of a Sardinian flower, a Sardinian bee, a Sardinian season.

Our Values

1

Nomadic beekeeping

We follow the blooms by moving across the island. The hives are not asked to produce at all costs — they are brought where the nectar is abundant and natural.

2

No chemical treatments

We only use organic oxalic acid for varroa control. No antibiotics, no synthetic chemical treatments.

3

Respect for bees

We never collect more than the bees can afford to give. Every winter, at least 40% of the reserves remain in the hives.

4

Total transparency

Every batch is numbered and analyzed. You can scan the QR on the jar and see the apiary, harvest date and chemical analyses of your honey.
